"I like your holistic approach to gardening. Children are naturally curious about nature. Gardening provides a therapeutic climate for children. Your introduction to gardening for the children is simple and practical for children to understand. From exploring the seeds to touching the different kinds of soil in their bare hands, planting the seeds helps the children to see the magic of the life cycle of nature. It is gratifying to see the result. I believe gardening nourishes our spirit. I like the way you introduce the beauty of starting a garden and how you connect it to the environment we live in and how to keep it clean and safe. You end your class with silence and stillness by practicing simple yoga exercise.
Following your lead, there are many little things we can do with children to enhance and support their interest in gardening. Such as growing plants in the classroom, taking short nature walks, talking about what is growing, how it grows, and appreciate the wonder of nature and all of its components. Respect all living things who live in the garden. Gardening is a source of spiritual development for young children.
I read this somewhere, 'a garden is a microcosm of the universe in which all the living and non-living elements of life meet.' Imagine how magical it can be to have a garden in our school.
I am so glad you are doing this big project with our Head Start Children. We all benefit from this experience. There is nothing like beautifying our environment. It is for our mental and physical well being."
